Just hearing the words "Jeep" evokes visions of off-roading adventure, and the new Jeep Wrangler is most likely the vehicle that most folks think of in that situation. Its vintage-inspired retro design certainly harkens back to the World War II vintage military vehicle, but today's Wrangler has a whole host of technologically advanced powertrains and creature comforts that even the average GI's of WWII would be hard-pressed to equal. The Jeep Wrangler continues to evolve as it takes on more functional options with each new model, but there are a few things that have remained consistent for decades. If you're looking for a sturdy, reliable vehicle that still enjoys good gas mileage and is reasonably priced, then the Wrangler might be the perfect fit.
Like most Jeep Cherokees, the new Wrangler continues to feature the familiar Jeep trademark grille, which includes a twin chin that is well sprawled across the front end. Jeep claims that this design provides optimal airflow for the turbocharged Jeep engine, and it works. From test rides we've had it seems like the engine runs pretty darn good, if not completely wild. From coast to coast, we have yet to find any road that we didn't drive the Wrangler through, whether it was off the beaten path or up a mountain.
Jeep designed the new Wrangler with its base model in mind so that the performance capabilities are equally optimized across the entire range. The first thing you will notice is the Jeep Wrangler's lack of any real luxury features. Yes, Jeep offers plenty of creature comforts that make your life a little easier at times, but nothing in life is ever free. From infotainment to power steering to suspension, every part of your Jeep has been made to work together as a whole. This makes driving all the more enjoyable, as everything is working together to give you the best experience possible. From our short test rides, we can say that the lack of real options in the infotainment department is par for the course for these vehicles.
Despite being one of the least developed models of the Jeep family, the new Wrangler still manages to impress with its design and capabilities. Its base is a lot wider and taller than the older generation, meaning that it requires extra space to store the extra cargo that comes standard on all models. Despite the extra space though, the model is perfect for everyday use and won't feel cramped when it comes to using the interior. Even with all of that cargo, the Wrangler still feels comfortable and roomy inside. So even if you're just going down to the local beach to go kiteboarding or doing some winter driving, you'll have enough room to get your activities underway.
One of the most noticeable differences between the Wrangler Unlimited and other models is the lack of cargo space. At only 14 inches wide, the cargo bay on this model is not very roomy, but it's big enough to handle at least a couple dozen pounds of stuff. In comparison to other four-door pickups, this model is about half an inch smaller in width, so it definitely packs a wallop when it comes to hauling. Of course, this comes at a price: Though the Wrangler Unlimited is a powerful truck, it's also one of the heaviest, thanks to its steel frame and powerful engine.
As far as the Jeep Wrangler's engine is concerned, there's little to complain about. The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited models get their power from a Jeep Wrangler Sport Suspension with Electronic Control, otherwise known as ECS, which helps the suspension geometry and balance, and helps make sure that all wheels are getting the right amount of traction so that they won't slip or get stuck. This is important because the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is all about off-road fun, and everything needs to be able to grip the ground. If there isn't a smooth ride for the tires, there's bound to be a problem. For this reason, many owners have requested the addition of aftermarket tire and rims, especially when the off-road models of the Jeep Wrangler start to show wear.
That being said, the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited doesn't have the best off-road model of SUVs on the market today. That title belongs to the Ford F-350, which sports an awesome off-road design that will blow you away. However, the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited competes with much more practical SUVs like the Honda Odyssey, Chevrolet Colorado, and Nissan NV, and has some pretty dang powerful engines behind it, too. So what's it all about? Well, the interior of the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited really sets it apart, with its roomy and comfortable nature.
Jeep has long since been known as a company that stands behind its product - especially when it comes to the most popular family-oriented vehicle around today, the Jeep Wrangler. The rugged reliability of the Wrangler model makes it a staple in the military, logistic, and farming communities all across America. Today, there are still thousands of Wranglers in use every day, providing workmen and women with a reliable workhorse that will last through any type of terrain and weather. And when it comes to finding the best four-door body styles to go along with their rugged off-road roots, no other brand has quite earned the right to the title "King of the Four-Trucks" as the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited has. So whether you're looking for a dependable family hauler or an all-terrain vehicle capable of taking on anything from mountain climbing to off-road trails, you've got options when it comes to buying the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited.
