We have been told since we were small that we need to eat a lot of food in order to be thin, healthy, and attractive. The only reason we are overweight is that we eat too much and turn it into sugar and fat instead of burning it off like it should. The truth is there are many other reasons why we are overweight, but the most common reasons are overeating and lack of exercise. The first reason can be controlled, but the other two are not. So why do people continue to eat and become obese?

There are a number of factors that contribute to overeating. For example, if you were raised by your mother to eat everything insight, you may develop a food addiction. You will find yourself eating an abundance of fast food, candy, cookies, and whatever else you can think of. And this becomes habitual behavior.

Another reason why some of us are overweight is because of our sedentary lifestyle. People who sit at a desk all day, going to meetings, or working on the computer are more prone to obesity. Another reason is our lack of physical activity. Sitting around all day, playing video games, watching television, or using the computer are all forms of sitting and laying around.

The result of all this sitting and lying around is unhealthy bodies and an unhealthy diet. One of the results of an unhealthy diet is overeating. Most people who eat an excessive amount of foods rich in fat gain weight. The best way to lose fat from the body is to burn off the fat. So the solution to the question of why are we overweight is a combination of bad eating habits and a lack of exercise.

There are many eating disorders that contribute to overeating. Anorexia is the most common eating disorder. People who have anorexia eat dangerously low amounts of food that they need to feel full so they won't eat anymore. Someone with anorexia will starve themselves and they won't eat until they have lost enough weight to return to their normal weight. Another eating disorder that contributes to overeating is bulimia.

Bulimics suffer in a very different way. They will eat uncontrollably but then they won't eat again. This can be a problem for both people involved. The person who has overeaten will have less energy, find it hard to focus and can feel guilty when they eat too much. The overeater also may feel that they have nothing left in their body, so they will eat even when not hungry.

The good news is that overeating is not permanent. We can get control of our bodies and begin to eat healthy foods. Once we achieve a healthy weight, we can stop overeating because we will have achieved our goal. Overcoming binge eating is a process that we must repeat throughout our lives, but if we make a concerted effort, we can do it successfully each time. It is important to remember that overeating is not our fault and we can do whatever we want to our body until we reach our goal weight.

Binge eating is just a temporary problem and over time our bodies will adjust to what we eat. We don't have to give up eating altogether. The important part of overeating is to learn new ways to eat so that overeating does not become a problem for us. It is possible to eat a healthy diet and lose weight if we are motivated to do it.
